... the " Cook Islands Backerbacker Association " (also called CIBAC) has been founded 2005
to improve both the situation of guests and hosts in the Cook Islands in a continious process.
From now on, we speak with one voice, that represents app. 19 % of the islands bed capacity.

CIBAC is based on Rarotonga with its elected leaders Atua Atuatika (vice chairman) and Moana
Hunter (secretary). CIBAC is open to new members in the backpackers, hostel and guesthouse
market that are willing to fullfil the requirements of the Cook Island Tourism Board accredition.

There is no membership admission fee to join CIBAC. If their are expenses caused by projects
we undertake, costs are divided onto the members that take part in this definded project. - All
members have the benefit to be presented on our website that is linked by Pacific Blue Airline.

CIBAC members meet not regulary. If a meeting is required the chairmen or secretary sends an
Email that defines: - why ? - when ? - where?. Actually we are talking about minimum prices for
beds and transport from and to the airport to ensure a quality level that confirms to accredition.

List of proposed minimum rates for so called "casual rates - 7 days or less" from Mai 2005 on.
Dorm Bed
Single Room
Double Room
Twin Room
Triple Room
Ensuites
20 NZ$
35 NZ$
45 NZ$
45 NZ$
65 NZ$
80 NZ$
These are only minimum rates to ensure standarts. Many accomodations will charge you more.

The "Backpacker Tourist" should never be underestimated. Most of our clients / guests are still
under 26 years and just graduated in their homecountrys. - They stay longer than the average
tourist and spend good money in the Cook Islands. Being older they might return to Rarotonga.

For example Richard Branson who founded Virgin Air, used to be a backpacker in his early years.
Later on - he wrote a backpackerbook that became famous for decades. - Every now and then he
comes back to the Cook Islands for holidays. Dear Richard B. thank you for providing information.

As the average price of our beds and rooms is only 10 to 20 % of the hotels and resorts on the
island, we have to work hard to provide rooms and facilities that confirm to the standarts of the
Cook Island Tourism Board Accredition. Hosting young people from all countrys is a challenge.
