As per email regarding your proposed concept for the Ministry of Marine Building, I love it.
I think it looks much better than a square building, all the buildings on the island thus far
lack any thought, I quite like the SDA church around the back road in Takuvaine, that looks
different. Most buildings on the island are boring, I hope you get the contract.

Actually I am leaving europe again for working in the pacific islands. But it does not look like I am coming
to Rarotonga where I would like to work for Cook Islanders. There are also other people which are not like
you. I am full of fear to come back because I took the "challenge on to work out a building proposal" for
your country, which I realy love by heart.

Looks absolutely fantastic! Great design! Although hate to think what it's
going to cost us. Does MMR need such an extravagant building, does MMR
warrant enough financially for us to spend such large amounts on this
building for their departments. This is prime business location, maybe
government could use this land for a project that would generate more
financially, and move the marine resources offices elsewhere. i.e. this
could be a Cruise Ship docking bay, this would generate tens of millions per
year, cruise ship arrives in the morning and leaves in the evening, huge
benefits for our people, and no need for more accom.. We need to think about
generating income not only spending it, and using all our natural resources,
weighing up what would be most beneficial in order to make us a self
sufficient country,. not continuously reliant on aid money.
... sorry !!! the design is great! but maybe we need to look at what this
beautiful building could better be used for in order to pay loan back

Yes, it is a great design, costs 1.991.500,- NZD (plus simple environment).
"MMR ordered it" and gave me a list with all departments and employees.
They are selling fishing rights for app. 2,24 mio skm pacific tuna waters.

Government could sell the land and the plans for this multipurpose building.
Cruise ships do not fit into Avatiu Harbour ;-) their tourists stay only half a day.
CI Economy rises app. plus 5% every year. - It can take 3 years to build. - Yes.

It is very nice, but not for me, I would like to be reminded that I am in the Cook Islands not
in a big city. Something simple and something that reminds me of my home PARADISE.

It is a polynesian building with todays materials suitable for cyclones.
You will see the "round huts" and all their "wooden concrete pilars" !
But you are right too - it will need some artists hands to connect it to

Greetings.
I have just seen the night picture of the new MMR building. It is a wonderful
piece of art, so now the hard part will be to make it materialise into reality.
With the Chinese court house still in mind, the only thing I wonder is, does
the new building have a lift, or just a ladder up the side?

MMR building proposal at Avatiu Harbour

It is fabulous. It's time that we think outside the square, it's a modern
society and lets move on and be with the times. My only reservation would be
with regards to actual location. Having it on the wharf on the same site where
the old building, could be inviting to the waves in the next hurricane.

Yes it is faboulous - gods works make sense - our works should make sense too.
You might have catched up that it is : " a monument for the open society" we live in.

The only material that never looses structure and strength in waters is good concrete.
The old building (see photo on the right) has been their for 30 years (1,30 meter deeper)

You are from Avarua - and soccer is different to rugby - thanks for your opinions
hints, ideas and your open minded reaction to a new idea that suddenly appeared.

Plans to recreate the Avatiu waterfront is great, but won´t this affect the
landing of bigger planes especially because its going up three stories?
But otherwise you did a great job.

Thanks for your opinion. - We only cared for the peninsula between
Avatiu sportsharbour and business harbour. National land in Avarua.

The airport administration - or the clever air newzealand manager can
help to find out if 17 meters from street level are within int. regulations.

Ministry of works or the courthouse staff have propper scaled paperplans.

This plan is beautiful for another place at another time. It does not fit
into the landscape and surroundings of Avatiu Harbour (I am assuming it's
going to be built on the current site where the Aramoana Fish & Chips shop
is).....not to mention that it is directly in the path of aircrafts landing / taking off.

I think it looks interesting but most importantly it needs to serve a
purpose. Foremost the landowners need to be considered in this, which
they haven't been. Secondly what will happen to the gas pipes running
underneath to the harbour, what impact will it have on the foreshore
residence and citc across the road. Lastly is it ideal to stand against
the cyclones and waves during cyclone season. Is it environmentally
friendly.

Interesting is an interesting expression ! ? - All purposes are given room by room.
To move it from fisheries onto fisheries and O.M.I.A. land has been Ian´s decision.
But it turned out to be a good decision. The building is able house both institutes ;-)
Impact on gas pipes will have to be anticipated by the ministry of works or transport.
Buildings always have to cope with pipes and sometimes with overland wires too !

The new CITC building suppy center and the Government building will be good neighbours.
Standing far enough from each other and both mark up the beginning of downtown Avarua.
Capital of the Cook Islands. MMR building is solid and should fit into foreshore regulationes.
Yes, the MMR concrete plus steel building is a strong and responsable answer to the Pacific.
It is born to resist and during a cyclone I would rescue myself in the first or second storie.
